I’m a brass musician and teacher, and the person behind Brass & Beyond!
I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with a BMus (Hons) in Orchestral Performance, specialising in Eb Bass (Tuba). Alongside my orchestral training, brass banding has been a huge part of my musical life, from playing with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain to competing at Championship Section level.
I created Brass & Beyond because I believe learning music should be supportive, enjoyable and shaped around the individual. Whether I’m helping someone make their very first sound, developing a more experienced player’s confidence, exploring music theory or introducing little ones to music through Little Musicians, I want every learner to feel comfortable developing at their own pace.
Most importantly, I want the people I teach to enjoy making music — because that’s where it all begins.
2010 onwards
I began my musical journey on the violin, aged 6, joining the North Somerset Centre for Young Musicians in 2011, and later leading both the Intermediate and Senior Orchestras
2014 onwards
I discovered brass through Lions Brass for Youth, beginning on tenor horn before progressing through baritone and eventually finding my home on Eb Bass.
Growing up
Alongside ensemble playing, I developed my skills across several instruments, achieving Grade 8 Eb Bass, Grade 7 Violin, Grade 6 Trombone and Grade 5 Music Theory.
2020-2023
Seven courses with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, including five residential courses, performing under a range of leading conductors.
2022-2026
BMus (Hons) Orchestral Performance, specialising in Eb Bass (Tuba), alongside three years performing with the RWCMD Brass Band.
2023-Present
Currently Principal Eb Bass at Ebbw Valley Brass Band, performing and competing at Championship level. Brass banding continues to be a huge part of my musical life.
I believe that everyone learns differently, so my teaching is shaped around the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
My aim is to create a friendly and supportive environment where learners feel comfortable trying new things, asking questions and developing at their own pace. Whether we're working on the very first notes, preparing for an exam or performance, developing existing skills or simply making music for enjoyment, lessons are built around each learner's individual goals.
Above all, I want my students to leave lessons feeling more confident, more curious and excited to keep making music.
A positive space to build confidence, ask questions and learn without pressure.
Lessons shaped around your experience, confidence and individual musical goals.
Because making progress matters, but enjoying the music you make matters too.
